KASCEPS to Offer Degree Programs as an Affiliated Institution of YUMSUK
In a significant move to enhance educational collaboration in Kano State, the management of Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS), led by Provost Asst. Prof. Sunusi Yakubu Ahmad, recently visited Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano (YUMSUK).
Asst. Prof. Ahmad stated that the main objective of the visit was to explore potential avenues for academic affiliation and to strengthen institutional ties between KASCEPS and YUMSUK. This partnership would enable KASCEPS to offer degree programs as an affiliated institution of YUMSUK, thereby elevating the college’s academic standing and providing students with greater educational opportunities. This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of YUMSUK, Abubakar Ibrahim, and shared with THE STENTOR NEWS, on Wednesday.
“We are here today to establish a strategic relationship with YUMSUK, aiming to start awarding degrees at our college through this esteemed university,” Dr. Ahmad stated.
Asst. Prof. Ahmad provided a comprehensive overview of KASCEPS’ history and its foundational vision. He highlighted the foresight of the college’s founding fathers, whose aspirations included the establishment of state-owned universities in Kano. This dream has been realized with the creation of three state universities: Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, Yusuf Maitama Sule University Kano, and Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education Kumbotso.
He emphasized that these institutions represent a significant milestone in Kano’s educational landscape, reflecting the state’s commitment to advancing higher education. Asst. Prof. Ahmad expressed deep admiration for the progress of YUMSUK under the leadership of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa.
He further expressed his gratitude to Professor for his dedication to the development of education in Kano State and described the Vice-Chancellor as a beacon of educational excellence, not only in Kano but throughout the northern region of Nigeria.
In his response, Professor Kurawa expressed his appreciation for the visit, recognizing its importance in the broader context of Kano State’s educational development. He noted the existing relationship between KASCEPS and YUMSUK, particularly within the framework of the Kano State Forum of Tertiary Institutions, where he serves as Chairman and Asst. Prof. Ahmad as Secretary.
The request for affiliation is indeed asignificant step forward for education in our state,” Prof. Kurawa remarked.He acknowledged the complexities involved in establishing such a partnership, including the need for rigorous academic and administrative processes. However, he reassured the KASCEPS delegation of YUMSUK’s commitment to the project, highlighting the university’s dedication to educational advancement.
The Vice-Chancellor conveyed his confidence in the potential success of the proposed affiliation, citing the strength and capability of both institutions. “With the caliber of professionals at KASCEPS and the resources at YUMSUK, I believe that, by the grace of Almighty Allah, this partnership will be fruitful,” he added.
Prof. Kurawa also highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in the educational sector, particularly in addressing the challenges and opportunities faced by tertiary institutions in Kano State. Pledged to engage in thorough discussions with the university management and relevant academic bodies to ensure the successful realization of this partnership.
In his vote of thanks, Dr. Muhammad Umar Sumaila, Deputy Provost of KASCEPS, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and the entire YUMSUK management for their hospitality and willingness to engage in this important dialogue.
