Mercy Corps Urges Journalists to be Sensitive when Writing Conflict Story
Reporters have been urged to be more careful and sensitive when writing a report about conflicts between two parties.
This call was made during a one day workshop on conflict sensitive reporting, organized recently by Mercy Corps in collaboration with The Bayero University Centre for Democratic Research (Mambayya).
The Workshop further highlight some of the important roles of Media and Journalists in a society which include but not limited to:
Fair hearing from both parties involved in a conflict, Check and balance, shaping the society, Social Justice and Prioritization of Public interest among other roles.
Danjuma Sa’idu Dawop who was one of the Facilitators at the Workshop, highlighted more on the purpose of organizing the training.
He said, their aim was to, after the training have Journalists that will go back to their respective Media and disseminate as well as practice what they have learnt, which he said will go a long way in finding solutions between aggrieved parties.
The training which came amid agitation by Young Nigerians demanding for good Governance and better life across Nigeria, had in attendance reporters from Kano and Katsina States.
