PARTNER Community Structures Commemorate the 2024 International Peace Day
In an effort to enhance peace and security especially at the grassroots, Mercy Corps Nigeria, West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) and Mambayya House supported community structures to commemorate the 2024 International Peace Day in two communities of Kosawa and Kura town in Kura Local Government Area as well as two communities of Kumbotso and Panshekara in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Peace Action for Rapid and Transformative Nigeria Early Response (PARTNER) funded by the USAID has set-up community-based structures in the four intervention sites to enhance Early Warning Early Response, sustain Peacebuilding efforts and also promote Social cohesion in the communities of intervention.
The events held in the different intervention sites had in attendance traditional and religious leaders, members of PARTNER community-based structures (CBRCs, EWMRG and GFPs), Women and Youth groups, professional groups such as Miyetti Allah and Farmers Association, represtatives of security agencies, and so on.
In line with the theme for this year, "Cultivating the Culture of Peace", stakeholders at the events made commitment to continue to put in their best to ensure that the culture of peace is inculcated in the society for overall local and national development.
Speaking at one of the events, the Village Head of Kumbotso, Alh. Aminu Iliyasu Abdulkadir, stressed the need for all stakeholders to join efforts to ensure that peace and security is maintained, as there can be no meaningful development in any society that is ravaged by insecurity and/or absence of peace.
