An exclusive interview with Hon. Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs with Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), which took place on 11th Jan. 2025
The interview centered on the newly appointed commissioner's strategic plans on enhancing information dissemination in Kano State.
In his opening, the Hon. Commissioner Waiya emphasized his commitment towards enhancing the practice of transparency and professionalism in communication, pledging that, "Even the insects that live underground will know what Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is doing towards transforming the State to achieve the possible greater height in the State
He further highlighted his goal of modernizing and digitalizing information dissimination systems to ensure that residents are well-informed of government programmes and activities
Waiya maintained a strong stance against the culture of promoting fake news, particularly through negative reporting, emphasizing his intention to promote positive narratives about the government’s achievements, as well welcoming constructive criticism that could provide guide for Government intervention to address pressing issues of public concern
Additionally, the commissioner assured that he would provide technical training for journalists in Kano State—including those at work in the private media outlets, as they all work for the development of our dear State, and this is part of his determination to enhance professionalism in information dissemination and communication practices
When asked on his plans regarding Kano's public relations officers and information officers, Commissioner Waiya replied, "I have already begun discussions with relevant organizations, including universities to provide training that could help to modernize and digitalize their operations, while providing them with the necessary working materials to improve their work."
He also announced the rollout of a new practice called the "WEEKLY REPORTING TEMPLATE," which will require all Public Relations Officers (PROs) across various agencies in Kano State to submit weekly reports on the activities of their organization for compilation and easy access to all information on Government projects, programmes and activities.
In his closing remarks, Comr. Waiya expressed his commitment to support the timely and effective reporting of the administration's policies and programmes to Kano citizens and beyond
