It has become necessary to respond to the baseless and malicious attack launched by Ismail Auwal against the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Kano State. His recent write-up not only exposes his personal bias but also unravels the sinister agenda of his paymasters who are hellbent on undermining the state government’s efforts at ensuring transparency and accountability.
Press freedom is a fundamental right, but it is not a license for recklessness, blackmail, or the propagation of falsehoods. Ismail Auwal’s piece is a classic example of journalism driven by vendetta rather than truth. His attempt to discredit the Commissioner reeks of desperation and envy, revealing a deep-seated resentment towards a government official who is committed to upholding the values and traditions of Kano State.
The profiling of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in Kano is a necessary step towards sanitizing the sector and ensuring that only credible organizations with genuine humanitarian intentions operate within our state. It is, therefore, not surprising that Ismail Auwal, who has consistently aligned himself with dubious NGOs, would rise in opposition to this noble initiative. His relentless criticism suggests an unsettling sympathy for organizations with questionable motives that are in direct conflict with our religious and cultural values.
The people of Kano State stand firmly behind the Commissioner and the government’s resolve to expose NGOs that serve as conduits for foreign interests and destabilizing elements. We will not be deterred by the antics of mercenary journalists who have chosen to mortgage their integrity for a few pieces of silver.
Ismail Auwal and his sponsors should take heed: the era of unchecked impunity is over. Kano State will continue to safeguard its values and protect its citizens from any external or internal threat masquerading as philanthropy. Those who seek to undermine this effort will inevitably expose themselves, just as Ismail Auwal has done with his ill-conceived attack.
We urge him to retract his baseless allegations and embrace responsible journalism—one that is rooted in facts rather than personal vendettas. The Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs will not be distracted by the noise of detractors but will remain focused on serving the good people of Kano State with dedication and integrity.
